No , I don't think Chrome's competitor is Opera or other browsers, google,actually, is trying to put their online services to the user's desktop directly.

We have noticed that there are some features that Chrome seemingly missed, email client, rss reader etc. But, think it about ... does google really need these features for his browser provided it has gmail, google reader
By Chrome, google is able to put their service ,such as google doc, spreadsheet, base, map ... directy to the user's desktop by simply click a button.
Imagine, for future's computers, there is a OS, and a google browser, all other applications are web-based. wait ... where's Microsoft ...
