LETTER OF COMPLAINT
I am writing to report the poor organizing and irrational practice of the regulations of the pre-game volunteer transportation arrangements.
As an Olympic volunteer, I devoted a large amount of time not serving for our guest and friend, but sitting over the depot in hot summer, waiting for nothing. We were told to report for duty on 20th July, and we were asked to be under exercise of practical thereafter.
We arrived at 0630am on the very day and there were nothing, no mission, no car, nothing at all. We (at least three hundred T3 volunteers) waited till after lunch, and were told to go to NOC N6 to fetch our cars, but we did not go there due to incomplete formalities.
The following two / three days, we were still asked to sign-in at regular shifts with nothing to do at all. However, our cars were shipped back to the depot without having a valid pass. On 23rd July, we finally have our car-pass issued and we were told to wash our cars manually, because we still have no vehicle complimentary cleaning card, and we could neither drive the car since there is no fuel in the tank.
Too many small incidents and conflicts to be listed when I was in OSD, what I really want to specify, is the time when we were transferred to IBC / MPC.
On 31st July, we were issued a temporary guest pass (TGP) to MPC (paper without plastic cover) as a day entrance to the control zone. Despite of wasted time in arranging car tidying, fuel filling and shoes / bags collecting and distributing, the rain had wetted and ruined that paper MPC-TGP of mine.
The guy from the Guest Pass Issuing Centre (GPIC) refused to renew me a new one, and alleged it was my fault no to have the good protection to the card. My point is, I could have had my card plastic-sealed myself (somewhere else), if it was not raining that heavily that day, before it were all wet. There were half a dozen people sitting in the room (GPIC office), chatting; none of them even tried to offer any help and their attitude were awful.
Today is 5th August, three days in prior to the opening of the game, and yet we still have no uniforms (T-shirt and trousers). The worse is, I do not even have a valid accesses permit (MPC TGP or something else). I have nothing to do today by waking up at 6am and traveled 3hrs back and forth from home to IBC / MPC, but returning home.
The past fortnights were totally a waste of time, money and resources, not only to me, but to all other bad treated volunteers as well. What happened so far was totally against the Green Olympic spirits.
People from the management all claimed that this is the first time we are running this game, and we will have to overcome all these imperfection and defects. I understand what they say and I am willing to give more time for them to ease things out; but I will not agree with them to use this as an excuse and take an indefinite time, making no change whatsoever to these mentioned issues.
I sincerely hope ICO / BOCOG have a serious look into the matters and I truly wish we can hold a success Olympic Games in Beijing.
Regards,
Volunteer Driver
